Porochista Khakpour

Porochista Khakpour - Picador Guest Professor in the winter semester of 2011/12

Porochista Khakpour was born in 1978 in Teheran and raised in the area of Greater Los Angeles. During her studies she received among others grants from the Johns Hopkins University in Writing Seminars, Northwestern University, the Sewanee Writers’ Conference and Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. Her creative work was and still will be published e.g. in the New York Times, The Paris Review Daily and the Los Angeles Times. She released her first novel Sons and other flammable objects in 2007. In 2014 she released her second novel The Last Illusion and was named by Dazed on of the “Top 10 American Writers You Need to Read This Year”. Her first memoir SICK came in 2018 and later in 2020 she published her first collection of essays Brown Album. Next to her daily narrative work she teaches Creative Writing and Literature in various Universities.
