QUOTATION MARK

Reading and discussion with Louis-Philippe Dalembert and Sasha Pimentel

Quotation Marks are highlighting the beginning and the end of direct speech. They can also put emphasis or irony on individual terms in a text. Literary speaking is therefore speaking with quotation marks. In our salon for literature US-Author Sasha Pimentel and Caribbean author Louis-Philippe Dalembert will speak with the translator and literary scholar Jan Wilm about their own work and also about their favorite books. Sasha Pimentel is the current Picador Guest Professor at the University of Leipzig. She will bring her poems about border crossing, migration and love from her award winning book ‚For Want of Water‘. Louis-Philippe Dalembert is one of the most important contemporary authors of the Caribbean. He is the current Samuel Fischer Guest Professor at Freie Universität Berlin. His novels, like ‚Les dieux voyagent la nuit‘ (The gods are travelling by night) are focussing on colonialism, exile and identity. Jan Wilm will talk with them about borders in life and literature.
