Tom Drury

Tom Drury - Picador Guest Professor in the summer semester of 2017

The author and journalist Tom Drury was born in Iowa, in 1956. He received a BA from the University of Iowa and an MA from Brown University in English/Creative Writing. Tom Drury’s first novel The End of Vandalism was published in 1994. He was named one of Granta’s Best Young American Novelists in 1996 and received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2000-2001. The book was also cited as one of the best American novels of the past 45 years by GQ Magazine in 2002. His novel Pacific was long-listed for the National Book Award in 2013. Tom Drury ist also the author of the novels The Black Brook, Hunts in Dreams and The Driftless Area. His short fiction and essays have appeared in the New Yorker, A Public Space, Ploughshares, Granta and the New York Times Magazine. The short story Path Lights was adapted into a film in 2009 by Zachary Sluser.

In 2017, he will be Picador Guest Professor for Literature at the University of Leipzig. The author read on the 2nd of May in Leipzig at Galerie für zeitgenössische Kunst.
